memorial day weekend | Lake Erie
The second day of camping seemed to get better with the bright shining sun. We were hopeful of drier ground. We did take a day trip to niagra falls (which I'll post on another day). When we returned from niagra falls we got dinner started. This time it was steaks! My brother in-law is a fantastic cook so of course they were delicious. We tried baking potatoes in the pit but we left them in there just a bit too long. They were burned around the edges.
With our bellies full we then took a walk along the lake. Can you tell we are having a good time? We did have it all to ourselves! It was fun to explore the beach. It wasn't much of a sandy beach but it did have lots of other pretty interesting things. There were lots of rocks which some you could easily break with your bare hands. We found this foam building up into
blobs in the little streams nearby. My brother and sister in-law were finding sea glass for their collection. We were enjoying ourselves up until this rumbling and grumbling sound we heard coming from far out on the lake.
We got back to camp and checked the weather reports. The reports were strong winds and possibly hail! We were told by security to seek shelter with strong walls. We Immediately packed up as much of our stuff as quick as possible. The whole time I'm thinking "this is just going to make more mud puddles!" After getting all our things secured in place so as not to get wet we made a dash to our cars to wait out the storm. ugh, what a night!
But that's not the end of our evening! I don't think I'll go into anymore detail because it is late and I am tired but we did go back to a wet tent that leaked water all night. :(
