Today we celebrated the first day of Hanukkah! We are trying to more faithfully stick to the traditions this year (in the past we just did what we knew at the time and that's it). So my husband said the traditional blessings, we sang traditional (and a few not-so-traditional) songs, and we ate traditional food. As you can see from the pictures we lit the menorah, ate some latkes, and played dreidel for gelt (chocolate coins). If you visit us during this time of the year, you too can celebrate our Lord's birth and his provision for his people.
Here's one of the prayer's David said tonight: Baruch ata Adonoi Eloheinu melech haolam, Asher kidshanu bimitzvosav Vitzeevanu lihadleek ner shel Chanukah.
Here's the translation: Blessed are You, the Lord our God, King of the universe, Who sanctified us with His commandments, and commanded us to kindle the Chanukah lights.
